• Home to several multi-national industrial businesses, and many national organisations operating out of the area’s various industrial parks.

• Hastings boasts one of the largest clusters of foreign language schools in the UK. Whilst this operation with its multi-ethnic base adds significantly to the diverse culture of our town, the integration of the student and indigenous population supports a truly cosmopolitan way of life.

• 1066 country boasts excellent shopping facilities from the village stores that serve our rural communities through to the new Priory Meadow Complex which houses national combines and provides the brands that are to be found in all significant shopping centres.

• Traditional industry abounds throughout the area, 1066 country is a wine producing area with a climate and soil that supports extensive viticulture. Agriculture, dairy farming, fruit and hops are prevalent, with the land beyond Rye supporting both root crops and the world famous breed of Romney Marsh sheep.

• Hastings has for generations supported a significant fishing industry with the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Europe. The Hastings fishing operation is certified to the Marine Stewardship Council Standard providing for a sustainable fishery, with local specialities comprising Dover sole, mackerel, and herrings.

• Local breweries are to be found at the FILO in Hastings, Whites in Bexhill, the Fallen Angel at Vinehall, and the Rother Valley on the county boundary at Northiam.

• Many of the towns and villages support their own Farmer’s Market where many of the home produced and local products are on sale.
